Life After Ironman

It's been almost 6 months since Ironman Arizona and I'm still at it. After taking a week or so entirely off, I started back up with the running group which I joined the week before leaving for Arizona. The group met Tues. and Thurs. mornings as well as Sat. mornings. and was coached by Abe Galvan. The first two weeks after starting back up I took it fairly easy on the runs and could feel that my energy was more than a little low. By the third week I felt pretty much back in the swing of things but not on what I would consider a real training schedule. I started adding in a few spin classes in addition to the runs.

Ski season started up slowly however by Jan. skiing was consuming my weekends. The running group was training for the Keiser San Francisco half marathon, the first weekend of Feb. I was never planning on doing it and I did not. About 2 weeks after the half marathon I joined a triathlon training camp being co-led by the running coach. For the first month I missed the weekend workouts in order to ski. By mid March I was more interested in biking and running than skiing and started to get back into a real training mode.

The triathlon camp was all about training for Wildflower but the idea of camping and racing does not appeal to me, so I signed up for Hawaii 70.3 which is a month later than Wildflower. Now with a little less than 3 weeks till the race, I hope I am ready.

Since I may never get a Kona spot, I thought I could get some sense of the experience by doing the half ironman that shares the 2nd half of the bike course. This way I hope that I will get a feel of what it is all about and either get it out of my system or make myself try harder.
